There's still work to be done.

Four years ago, I asked for your support to run for Charleston City Council, and you granted it.  For that, I thank you.

I am excited to report that many of the important issues that have come before City Council since my re-election in 2015 have been addressed.  A few are:

  • The Louis Waring, Jr. Senior Center is now open and accepting memberships! People are using the Center every day.

  • Construction and opening of The Gaillard Center.

  • 19 additional police officers patrol 36 public and private elementary schools in the City of Charleston (implemented after the attempted shooting at Ashley Hall School).

  • We established a TIF district to help fund the revitalization of West Ashley (Tax Increment Financing)

  • We secured funds via the hospitality tax and accommodation sales tax revenue to buy the WPAL site in West Ashley and the Bender Street site in Ashleyville for a water front park in each area.We have also appropriated monies to construct each water front park.

  • Additional drainage easements District 7 neighborhoods

  • By working with my colleagues on City Council, we have been able to secure funding for:

    • $5.1 million to a SC State facility at the Cooper River Bridge Site

    • $5.5 million to the King and Huger St. drainage project

    • $7 million to fix Stoney Field

    • $5.6 million to the Carr-Richardson and WPAL waterfront parks

    • $12.5 million for the IAAM

    • $15 million toward the West Oak Forest drainage project (Phases I and II)

    • $17.1 million to Grace Homes on the old Cooper River Bridge Site

    • $39.6 million to affordable housing

There are other issues that I feel must be addressed soon by City Council for the future benefit of all the citizens of Charleston.  Some of these issues are listed below:

  • Complete the process of the revitalization of West Ashley.

  • Allocate more of the hospitality tax and accommodation sales tax revenue for West Ashley improvements.

  • Make more progress in securing money for Affordable Housing.

  • Create a Wellness/Aquatic Center in West Ashley that will help revitalize the Citadel Mall area.

I invite you to call or email me to discuss an of these and other important issues.

Together, we can make a positive difference!
